Sponsorship Program
Sponsorship Program
Our child sponsor program aims to provide an education to children who were denied the opportunity. Due to various factors 40% - 80% of children, depending on their ages, have no education at all and of those in school 95% are two to nine years overage for their grade. Additionally, many of the children living in Monrovia do not have families that are capable of caring for them. Most are living with very young mothers, aging grandparents, or distant relatives. Access to public education is limited requiring children to attend
privately run schools. With the annual income of most Liberians averaging $575 and the cost for a modest private school being $300, it is difficult for children with guardians to attend school much less for children without guardians to receive an education. Left unsupervised during the day, many children are vulnerable to physical and sexual violence as well as the influence of criminals living in the slums. Our program gives them choices in life and a hope for a prosperous future.

Medical Care Program
There are few places to receive medical care in Liberia and once someone reaches a facility all the medical costs must be paid in full before a patient will be seen by anyone. A child can be sick and possibly dying but he/she will not receive any medical attention until the guardian pays for the care. Hepatitis A and B, malaria, typhoid, and yellow fever are prevalent especially among children. Our medical care program is designed to provide funds for such medical care when it is needed and in the future to purchase supplies for rural clinics.

Holiday Celebrations Program
The two major holidays in Liberia are Christmas and Independence Day, July 26th. On these two days the children gather to wear their new clothes and to enjoy food and fun with friends and families. Our holiday celebrations program solicits food, toys, and other party items to be shipped to Liberia. These "goodies" are shared with the children in the slums at parties organized by Messiah Student Fellowship, Inc. In addition to the food and fun at the party, they also hear the good news that Jesus loves them and died for them.
